# Swarms

> In Skillhive, all content views are called Swarms. A Swarm is a shared collaboration space where people work around a common goal. The concept reflects collective intelligence – enabling skills to be shared and combined across teams and organizational boundaries.

## What is a Swarm?

Technically, a Swarm is a page view with features depending on its swarm type.

Swarms can be used for:

- Project teams
- Development discussions
- Training programs and learning content
- Onboarding
- Goals
- Expert searches
- Competency assessments
- Discussions
- Events

All content in Skillhive is structured as swarms.

## Ownership and Membership

Each swarm has at least one **Primary Owner**.

- The creator of the swarm is the default primary owner.
- The primary owner can assign additional owners.
- Ownership can be transferred.

Owners can:

- Edit swarm details
- Manage visibility
- Manage members

Swarms may include:

- Owners
- Members
- Followers (receive notifications without being members)

## Swarm Visibility

A swarm can be:

### Open

- Visible to all organization users
- Anyone can join
- Anyone can invite others

### Restricted

- Visible only to owners, members, and invited users
- Joining by invitation only

Admins may also directly add users to swarms.

## Official Content

Official or administratively created swarms can be marked with a visual badge to distinguish them from user-generated content.
