# Deleting and archiving a swarm

> How to delete and archiving a swarm?

## Deleting a Swarm

A swarm can be deleted by:

- The swarm owner (if they created the swarm)
- An Admin

Deletion is possible only if the swarm contains no comments.

The **Delete** button is located in the swarm action menu and is visible only to users with deletion rights (owners and Admins).

### Deletion Restrictions

- If the swarm contains comments, deletion is disabled.
- All comments must be removed before deletion.

Regular users can delete only their own comments.

Admins can delete all comments.

### If an Admin Does Not Have Access

If an Admin does not have visibility into a restricted swarm, deletion requires contacting Skillhive support through the designated organizational contact person.

## Archiving a Swarm

In most cases, deletion is not necessary.

A swarm can instead be marked as **Completed**, which:

- Removes it from active listings (e.g., homepage)
- Moves it to the archive of completed swarms

Archiving preserves all content for future reference.

### Marking a Swarm as Completed

A swarm can be marked as completed by:

- Clicking the **In Progress** status link
- Setting an end date for the swarm

If an end date is defined, the swarm is automatically archived once the date is reached.

### Recommendation

Archiving is generally recommended over deletion because:

- Past projects and discussions may be valuable later
- Lessons learned and outcomes can be documented
- Knowledge is preserved

Archiving supports long-term organizational learning.
